The 2026 SCWR will take place in the Blanco/Hye area of the hill country. The rally will commence promptly at 1:00 p.m. in the picturesque Downtown Blanco, Texas Square. If you’d like to have lunch (and if you have chili, you might earn 5 points) before starting the drive, there are several dining options available on the square.
For those who are trailering their cars, the “Host” Hotel (more details on this later) will be the Blanco River Hotel. Please drop your trailer and meet in the square.
This year, the 66-mile rally with 27 direction changes will feature various components, including a Poker Run, TSD (time-speed-distance) sections, Tulip Directions, and, of course, some wine. Additionally, we will have a points ratio similar to the Ted Hinson Distance Award. If you’re curious about these ratios, please refer to the Operation Procedures on the website. Non-Mgs will have a disadvantage of 0.75 - 1. It wouldn’t be a Russell & Heather Rally without bonus points for MGs with the hood down (5 points).
I can hear you now, “Time, Speed, Distance?! But my speedometer doesn’t work!” or “I don’t like math.” No worries! We’ll be using an app that works on both iPhones and Android devices called Competitor by Richta GPS Checkpoints. This is the same app used by SCCA for their TSD rallies. You’ll be fine.
Now that you all seem to be comfortable with TSD, we’ll be concluding the rally at one of our members’ favorite wineries, Hye Meadow Winery. If you take the backroads route to the hotel, it only takes about 30 minutes. And for those of you who are skittish about deer or nighttime driving, the sun sets at 7:41 p.m., so we’ll have ample time to socialize at Hye Meadow.
But wait, I haven’t mentioned the name… well, the Silly will be scattered throughout the rally. Maybe we’ll have hula hoops, maybe magnetic fishing, or maybe a compromising picture. I briefly mentioned Chili (and if you have beans in it and still call it Chili, you’ll lose). But what about Willie? I’d brush up on your Willie Nelson trivia, including any parking lot stories I might have shared.
Now, let’s talk about the hotel. I wanted to stay at the charming little motor lodge, The Blanco County Inn & Guesthouses, but unfortunately, they’ve been converted into offices. Boo! So, we’ll be gathering at the Blanco River Hotel (Blanco G.O.F. host hotel). Unfortunately, they won’t give me a block of rooms because I’m not sure how many of us will be there. So, please call ahead and reserve a room, if you need one.
OK all that is left is to REGISTER, but if you are online adverse - just drop me an email at rread@mac.com.
